A 4-WEEK SERIES FROM THE BOOK OF JAMES ON LOVING OTHERS
Youth Study: Wednesdays 6:30pm
When Jesus was on earth, he had a lot to say about love, but not everyone loved him. Instead, Jesus’ opponents hated him, attacked him, and saw him as extreme — dangerous — revolutionary — a radical. And they had a point! The things Jesus taught about loving God and loving others challenged the status quo and changed the world forever. That’s pretty radical. In this 4-week series from the book of James, we’ll look at four ways Jesus invites us to love according to his revolutionary example. These ideas might seem simple, but when we choose to listen more than we speak, refuse to play favorites, watch our words, and fight for peace, we’ll see just how radical Jesus’ teachings really are.
Retreats & Trips
Each year we do as many retreats as we can. In January, there is a stay-retreat here in Portland called ONE Weekend where we partner with other denomination churches in the area for a weekend of service, study and worship. In February and July, we join other Methodist youth from around our Rio Texas Conference at Camp Eagle and Mt.Wesley for a retreat called REVIVE
Come As You Are
All are welcome! All students grades 6th-12th are invited to come to any youth event. We seek to serve all kinds of students and families – it doesn’t matter if you’re a member of this church or not. We invite you to explore FUMC Portland through our vibrant youth ministries!
